Friday, November 22, 2002 – MeritCare Web Site Wins Award for Best Health Content

MeritCare Health System's Web site, meritcare.com, received an award of distinction in the "best health content" category from eHealthcare Strategy & Trends during a recent healthcare Internet and technology conference. More than 150 healthcare organizations representing a wide industry spectrum were selected to receive awards from more than 1,000 entries. Judges looked at how sites compared with others in their organization's classification.

MeritCare's Web site was launched in 1997 and redesigned in 2000 to include a medical staff directory, birth announcements (BassiNet), a health library with over 5,000 topics and online job applications. The site also offers targeted health newsletters, a health library written just for kids and teens, a site that allows hospitalized patients to communicate with family and friends and much more. Most recently, meritcare.com was host to the nation's first live webcast of robotically assisted heart surgery. Nearly 38,000 visitors come to meritcare.com each month.

The eHealthcare Leadership Awards program was developed and first presented in 2000 by eHealthcare Strategy & Trends, a leading Internet resource published by Health Care Communications, Rye, N.Y.
